About Janice

I had a great childhood and was raised in a loving family. My parents both worked fulltime.  My father was an Army Lieutenant in World War II and received a Bronze Star. Following WWII he became a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff.  My mom was a Registered Nurse. I had a busy childhood and was very involved in Girls Scouts which sparked my love for community involvement and giving back. While attending college and working full time in the Los Angeles County Marshal’s Office, I took a sociology class and the professor mentioned police officers lacked intelligence and were not well educated.

It was at that moment I decided to write a paper on “The Educational Background of Police Officers,” and to share the results with my professor. It turned out that many of the Police Officers had a Bachelor’s degree and some held Masters. After I had completed my research, the Sergeant asked me if I was interested in a ride-along. I ended up taking that ride-along on a weeknight that just happened to be Valentine’s Day. That ride-along Officer ended up becoming my husband Dale. We dated for a year and a half and were married in 1975. We have two children, and two grandchildren.
